Pumpkin Patchin' it Texas Style

Last weekend we took the girls, and Sarah and Jeffrey, our cousins, to a pumpkin patch! Although we are finally getting fall-like temperatures the last few days, last weekend at the patch it was 90 degrees!!!! We were definitely not prepared for that! Normally you associate a hay ride with being chilly, but it was quite the opposite--we we're sweating! Despite the hot temperatures, we still had a fun time picking out pumpkins! And, the highlight of the trip had to be Addy Jane riding a pony!! She's been into My Little Pony lately, so this experience was especially exciting!!

When we ask Emery to smile lately, she puts everything she's got into it!

Happy Five Year Blind Date Anniversary!

On October 14, 2006, Andy and I met on a blind date. We went to a concert and afterward met up at a friend's house to decorate sugar cookies. So every year we decorate sugar cookies as a fun way to remember when we met! This has become one of our family's favorite traditions! While we were waiting for the cookies to cool, Andy and I were cleaning up the kitchen. The girls were trying their hardest to wait patiently, but kept coming over to the table where the cookies were cooling and fussing because they couldn't have them yet. After a few minutes passed we noticed how quiet the house was and everyone knows when toddlers are quiet that they're up to something. Andy went to check on the girls and found them both happily sitting by the couch eating two heart-shaped sugar cookies! They've gotta be the cutest little cookie thieves I've ever seen! I'm so grateful for my sweet little family and especially to have met my most amazing husband 5 years ago!

Pure Happiness and Delight

On the Fourth of July we watched fireworks with the girls at UNT. It was a beautiful show we enjoyed with our friends who remembered their camera and captured this cute little picture of Emery. The girls LOVED the fireworks and I wish I would have brought my camera so I could have taken a video of their reactions. Addy said things like "WOW! Come see this Dad!" and of course there were plenty of girly squeals!

For many days to follow Addy kept asking to see more fireworks and it was hard for her to understand that it only happens once a year on Fourth of July (unless of course you're a Poyner and then you do fireworks for weddings or for fun in the backyard, but you better have a hose ready!).

I can imagine Emery saying, "Behold the fireworks Father!"

Addy's favorite song is "I Love To See The Temple." She sang this for us as a closing song during FHE. Our favorite is hearing her sing the word "prepared." We'll have to work on that one.

The Little Cheering Squad

Earlier this week I learned about a 5K race here in Denton that was FREE! Of course I had to take advantage of that! It was very hot today and the course was not shaded at all, so when I rounded the corner at the halfway point, completely exhausted, I couldn't have been happier to see my cute little cheering squad. They were all smiles and were shouting "GO Mommy GO!" It gave me the extra boost I needed to keep going. I have the best family ever!!!

We went to the park afterward to let the girls play. I'm so grateful my girls have a dad that makes them laugh and smile!! (See video)

Racing Fun!

It's been so fun to get to see our family the last two weekends! Doug, Amber, Callie and Sarah were in Oklahoma for a few weeks, so we raced up to see them last weekend and they came down to Texas to see us this weekend.

The girls enjoyed dressing-up in princess costumes and tutu's and playing at the park! Sarah and Addy loved riding the four-wheeler together!

Doug, Amber and I had a chance to run a 5K on Saturday morning, while Andy watched all 4 girls--he's the real winner of that race! I did make sure to pack a bag of oreo cookies for the girls (as arsenal) should things get out of control. Upon crossing the finishing line I could see my little cheering section with black crumbs across their cute smiles! :-) He did a great job watching them and let Sarah and Addy run down a trail together for their own little race, while the very calm Emery and Callie rode in the double stroller!

Then we raced home to watch conference together, which was so wonderful (or at least the pieces that I caught!). We've had a blast!!!!

Last weekend, Andy went to San Antonio for the Hall Organ Competition and won first place! We were so excited that Sarah, Bobo and I made a little banner for Andy. We had so much fun coloring it and marking it up with musical notes and symbols. I was so grateful to have their creative genius and help there! Congratulations Andy--we love you and are so proud of you!!!

Dallas Zoo!

Today, Karri (my best friend growing-up!) and Darcy (her beautiful little baby girl!), took us to the Dallas Zoo! The weather was completely perfect and made for a wonderful and fun day! Sadly, our camera can eat batteries like I can eat through a tub of Blue Bell, so we weren't able to get as many pictures as we would have liked, but that just gives us more reason to come back in the future for more great photo ops!

There was a little splash zone river for the kids and Addy was so excited to get in the water until she stepped on a stick--you should have seen how fast she got out of that water!

Addy relates everything in life to her favorite princess, Cinderella, so she was so happy to see chickens and horses "like Cinderella" as she says. She was also excited to see and learn that elephants have their "business" too and after he was done she said "change" (for diaper change) and then kept asking for "more more please!" Very cute! Thanks again Karri and Darcy for such a wonderful day full of new sights and adventures!

Cowtown Fun!

Here are some pictures from the Cowtown 5K we did last Saturday! It was such a fun experience! There was over 18,000 at the race and the energy and adrenaline was so contagious!! While we (Amy, Rick and I) were out running the race, Andy was so great to take the kids around the expo for some fun events. Sarah won a hula-hooping contest and the prize she received was a "Megamind" DVD!!!! We were all so excited for her!!!! After finishing it was great to see a big Blue Bell truck passing out ice cream. I think had I known that would be at the finish line, I might have run faster to get there! :-)

Last Tuesday night we were waiting for Dad to get home to tuck the girls in bed and they were watching the Biggest Loser with me. (The BL contestants were doing boxing.)

Tonight at the dinner table we all folded our arms for prayer and I looked over (yes, my eyes were open:-) to see Emery trying her hardest to imitate us. Folding arms can be tricky business, but Emery just wanted to add her own style!

Emery is going to make a fabulous sign language interpreter! She's already practicing her facial expressions!

Later on in the evening, we had some dancing music on, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!" Emery was really getting into it--shake that booty!!!

Magical Snow!

There's something about snow that's magical! Addy was so excited to get her hands on it and once she figured out she could throw it at Mom and that I would throw it back, it started a long snowball fight--she loved it! Although, it was difficult to get pictures with snow coming at the camera!

At one point I heard Addy say, "YUMMY!!!" I already knew what was happening and luckily she was eating fresh snow, not the black and brown yucky stuff. What a relief!

We must have stayed outside for at least 45 minutes, when I brought Addy in. She wasn't happy about that. She was completely captivated by this amazing-thing called snow! I think she would have stayed out there forever it I had let her.

Walker Texas Ranger

Emery is definitely a walker now! She's been showing off her skills for the past 2 weeks and you can see it in her eyes that she's excited about her new freedom to move quickly wherever she wants to go! She's put in the time and we're happy to announce that Emery has been promoted to "Walker Texas Ranger" status! Way to go Emery!

It's so much fun to live with a two year old who sees the world through very creative eyes! Just yesterday I tore off a piece of cheese, handed it to Addy and she said "Temple!" (Forgive the photography, but I tried to have her hold the cheesy temple long enough for a picture, but I could tell she was more interested in eating it than having a Kodak moment, so this is what we got.)

We can't believe we've had our sweet Emery Claire for one year! We're so grateful to have her--she makes us all so happy!

I love the cute differences of personality between our girls. While Addy covered her eyes when it was time to blow-out her birthday candle, Emery was ready to put it out with her bare fingers! She dove right into her cake and enjoyed making a little mess!!

Everyone had a blast on Halloween! Our ward had the Halloween Trunk-or-Treat at a members vet clinic. My sister and I commented on how surprisingly fresh it smelled inside, not like animals had been there. It was a really fun venue for the kids to go around and do carnival-type games. Andy helped at the Elders Quorum booth and enjoyed showing off his Iron Man costume that he's been talking about for the last year. He was so excited to finally pull it off! Our cousins, Sarah and Jeffrey (the Hippies!) came with us too! It was so much fun to have them!

Addy really enjoyed their Hippie necklaces after Halloween was said and done!

Addy dressed up as a Care Bear! Although, I'm not sure what she thought about the whole Halloween thing, but she loved the candy!

Emery and I went on a cupcake-walk and won!!!! Emery really loved the frosting!

Cool As A Cucumber!

We visited the doctor's office this morning so Emery could get her second dose of the flu vaccine. The office is only a block away, so we walked over enjoying the cool weather and everyone was all smiles. I thought Addy might remember the office and want to leave, as she got "poked" at her last visit, but she was happy as ever playing in the waiting room, that is until the nurse made her appearance. Addy started crying urgently "Bye-bye, bye-bye, bye-bye!" I tried to explain that we were here just for Emery and that calmed her down a little bit.

We got into the room and I could tell that Addy was nervous, while Emery was cool as a cucumber, although I didn't think that would last long. The nurse poked Emery and she barely flinched and tensed her leg, BUT THAT WAS IT. I couldn't believe how calm Emery was! No tears at all--how ironic! It must be opposite day!

It's so fun to see the may sides of your children's personalities develop as they grow, not to mention all the many faces, voices, and funny things they do! Everyday my little comedians make me laugh and do something that warms my heart. Yesterday, Emery was trying to pull herself up using the window seal and Addy went over to join her, only to stand up and give her a kiss on the head. What a sweetheart!

Neglect

I can't believe it's been 4 months since our last post--what neglect!! Since then, we have moved to Denton Texas so that Andy can go to school at the University of North Texas. We really love it here so far, although we would love it more if we could get some cooler temperatures so we could visit the local parks everyday! Because there are some days we are stuck inside due to the crazy heat, we go downstairs to the garage and play. It's a nice change in scenery and there's plenty of room to run around and blow bubbles.

Speaking of neglect, check out this video below. While I was making dinner, Emery was making a fuss. I went over and checked on her and she seemed fine, just fussing. I went back to cooking dinner and she kept fussing, so I thought I'd check on her again and realized that her diaper velcro had gotten stuck on the carpet and she couldn't move.

Future "Minute to Win It" Contestant

Andy excitedly comes and gets me to see something that he says I will love. I wasn't expecting to see this, but I was pleasantly surprised! He did it in a minute, all while waiting for his toast. I was extremely impressed and took it a step further the next day, on April 1, and told him that I had entered him in the "Minute to Win It" game show. I could tell from his reaction that he was trying to be excited about it, because he could see how excited I was. I told him that they would be calling us in the next day to tell us if he had made it on the show. I let him agonize over the thought for about 5 minutes until I told him "April Fools!" Boy, was he ever relieved! Andy is busy preparing for his orals, composing pieces and getting ready for doctorate school and it appears that "Minute to Win It" was not high on his priority list. :-) Perhaps for the Poyner Family Ghetto Olympics we could adopt some of these games. Poyner's get ready and start training....here comes Andy and his mad skills!!

March Animal Madness!

Since Addy has become so fascinated with animals, especially birds, we decided to make Spring Break "March Animal Madness!" Our first trip was a visit to the poor man's zoo--PetCo. Needless to say, you get what you pay for. (Sorry no pictures of the eventful experience :-) We decided to step it up a notch and take a trip to the Prarie Park Nature Center in Lawrence. Addy wasn't too fond of snakes, which runs in the family. But she didn't mind this little guy....

Personally, I could only stand to be near this guy long enough to take a picture....ahhh. He looks like he's going to snap at any moment and I know I would a wet my pants!!

The below picture is Addy on the move at the Topeka Zoo! Yes, we stepped it up even one more notch for March Animal Madness! We had fun letting Addy run around and she really enjoyed all the free space!

Of course, we had to visit some members of the bird family, namely the DUCKS!

Addy was hoping to turn her frog into Prince Charming with a little kiss!

March Animal Madness was a blast, but now we have to go bigger and better...perhaps the Kansas City Zoo is next!!

Emery's Baby Blessing

"Yay! I'm so happy I got my baby blessing!"

On January 31, Emery Claire was blessed in Oklahoma with her cousin Harrison. It was such a fun weekend with the family. Me and the girls had a blast being snowed in and playing games with the family, while Andy braved the elements and went south to Texas for his doctorate audition at University of North Texas. It was a wonderful weekend between a great audition, time with our family and a beautiful blessing of our sweet baby girl!

"I'm All Done!"

Our family was enjoying the beautiful weather yesterday, 52 degrees to be exact! We went to the aquatic center and Addy was having a blast splashing in the water and having fun! We noticed Addy started looking tired so we asked her using sign if she was "All done?" She quickly motioned back to the water. About 10 minutes later she calmly looked at Dad and signed "I'm all done." It's so fun seeing her using signs to communicating.

Hugs and Kisses

Could there be anything more wonderful than a hug and kiss from a precious little one! Addy has been surprising us with hugs and kisses on a regular basis. I may be on the floor picking up cheerios or putting laundry into the dryer when I feel little arms wrap around me. What's even sweeter is to watch how Addy loves her little sister. She loves to pat her head and give her kisses all day long. We are teaching Addy sign language and in an effort to praise her on her loving actions, we sign to her "thank you" only to have her tiny hands sign "thank you thank you" back to us. How fun to see her learning and growing!

Yeah! We were able to catch a smile on camera from Emery-doll!

Addy really enjoys eating oranges and one morning we found that we could peel the orange into what looked like a flower. Addy is enjoying wearing it on her head! (Pardon the nose, Addy's getting lots of chompers in which makes for a runny nose :-)

Addy had a fun time opening up her gifts as she began to understand that wrapping paper is for ripping and that something good is underneath all that. Andy or I would rip into the wrapping paper and show her that something was underneath it and then she would begin feverishly tearing at the paper to see what was there. We had a wonderful Christmas and are so grateful for the two cutest girls in the world and our loving Savior whose birth we celebrated!

In keeping with Lloyd family tradition, we dressed Emery in the same yellow dress that Addy wore on her first Sunday back to church. We were amazed at how much the girls looked alike. My favorite are the baggy tights that Emery is wearing. Aren't tights supposed to be tight?

Emery's First Bath

Today we visited the doctor for Emery's weight check. She had lost a lot of weight after birth, but she has since gained it all back and more. In the last week she has gained a pound and she now weighs in at 9 lbs 9 ounces. I told the doctor that she takes after her mom in that she can gain weight quickly! :-)

Emery had her first bath yesterday! I thought I had gotten her all clean until after the bath I realized that I hadn't cleaned the folds of her neck very well. I love her cute little rolls in her neck!

Andy and I were talking today about what food or drink item is most consumed by the public and we agreed that it had to be milk. Addy is proof that we love milk, as she took Dad on in the "Gallon Challenge" and won! Way to go Addy! And what is milk without a little Oreo cookie!

A New Tradition

This year our family is starting some new traditions. One of them is the "Gratitude Box"--an idea that was inspired by an article written in this months Ensign about a family who made a thankful box and filled it with things they were grateful for starting on Thanksgiving. They opened the box on Christmas Day and read all the things they were grateful for. It has been a wonderful tradition so far! We are excited to open it up on Christmas and enjoy the gift of gratitude and reflect on the blessings we have received. What are some of your family's traditions? Please share!!

The excitement started on November 11^th, 2009.

Baby was coming. Mommy knew it was time.

But the 11^th went by (so did 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21).

Where, oh where was baby? She just didn’t want to come!

Everyone impatiently waited through 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28.

But baby had other plans. She said “You’ll just have to wait!”

UNTIL

November 29^th at midnight (12:15 to be exactly right)

That’s when baby shouted “My living quarters are getting a bit tight!”

Only three hours later (almost out of thin air),

Arrived our sweet baby, our darling Emery Claire.

Addy learned how to walk about two weeks before Emery was born. She is busy here helping at the hospital. She is so cute with Emery. She walks around pointing at Emery saying "Baby, baby!" She also enjoys patting Emery on her head.

Addy's Visit to the Pumpkin Patch

Addy and I visited the pumpkin patch with some friends from church. It was especially windy and cold, but we toughed it out long enough to pick-out a pumpkin and get a few cute pictures. Addy really enjoyed the pumpkin at first until she touched it's prickly stump, then she became a little wary, not to mention it was hogging up tons of space in her stroller. We had a blast and are looking forward to celebrating Halloween this year!!!

Happy 1st Birthday Addy Jane!!!

Addy had a chance to celebrate her birthday early with family while in Oklahoma for cousin Natalie's baby blessing. We had a blast!!! Thank you to everyone who made it a special day for her. Then we had another celebration for Addy on her birthday. Although Addy was very wary of her birthday candle, she really loved the taste of birthday cake. I had so much fun making Addy's it and hope that future cakes get even cuter after I take a cake decorating class next month. Addy's birthday cake extravaganza ended with a nice warm bath (with little cake chunks floating in the tub) and Addy playing with her new tub toys. We can hardly believe that she's been in our family for a year and that she will have a sister in only a few months!!! We love you Addy Jane!

Fish Face

Mom and Dad always do fish face for Addy (we also do dolphin sound effects, which she loves) and we finally caught Addy on camera doing her version of fish face. It's so amazing to see how she tries to imitate all the facial expressions that we do.

Addy is crawling now and she finds her way into the tiniest of spaces! Oftentimes, she gets stuck and cries out for Mom or Dad to come and rescue her from the pickle she's gotten herself in.

About a month ago, Andy and I noticed that Addy had two little teeth starting to come in. Since then, we have noticed one more chomper coming out on the top row. It's cute to see Addy smile with a toothy-little grin. We had to include the second picture because it's so cute when Addy gets upset and her little nose becomes bright red. And, of course, the last picture is Andy's creativity at work in the kitchen. That hot dog is dedicated to our number one girl!

Little Addy loves BBQ sauce as much as her Dad! The picture of Andy was taken the Christmas he came home to meet my family. Mom and Dad took us out to Sante Fe (a restuarant) and Andy ordered something with BBQ sauce and it was getting so messy, he decided to draw handlebars on his face. Addy was actually eating prunes when I suddenly had a flashback to Andy's handlebars and I knew we had to get out the BBQ sauce bottle and take a picture of our little cutie!

It's Been A While! Here's the Latest....

This month has been a very busy one. We went to Oklahoma to see my family for Thanksgiving and had so much fun! Addy continues to grow more everyday and we continually enjoy her smiles and the little things she does to bring so much joy into our lives. Andy and I are the happiest we have ever been with our little bundle of joy! She is a light in our lives!

This is Addy in her Univesity of Kansas outfit! This was the day that we brought Addy to Daddy's classes for show and tell. She was loved by all! We learned that she doesn't like Bach because a student did a presentation and played some of Bach's music and Addy started wailing. We had to step out in the hallway for a little bit!

We have been putting Addy in her bumbo seat. This was her first time and she didn't like it very much. She has grown more fond of it with time.

This is one of Addy's world famous BLOWOUTS! We've had some pretty funny blowout stories. I coulnd't believe it and had to take a picture to show Dad when he got home. It was everywhere! Enjoy!

It's so funny how things always work out! I had seen a little bee costume a Wal-Mart and was going to buy it early in the season, but didn't. When I went back several weeks later, all of the infant costumes were gone and of course I couldn't let Addy go her first Halloween without a costume. Not to mention that she'll only be this tiny once and I needed to take advantage of this opportunity to dress her in something really cute! So, my mom heard through the grapevine that I had a small dilemma and, as always, she really came through for us. She called me up a day before Halloween and said that the costume was being overnighted to us....little did I know that she would drive up to Kansas and deliver it herself that very night. I heard a knock on the door and asked who was there. In my mother's voice I heard "Fed-Ex!" I was so excited when I opened the door to see my Mom and Dad and the bee costume. I love my parents--they are the best!

4:48 p.m.

It was a Saturday like all the others, wakin’ up to a bright Kansas sun.

We didn’t have much planned for the day, just runnin’ around gettin’ things done.

But before we could jump out of bed something happened. Let me tell you it wasn’t a joke.

I awoke with a start. I knew it was real. That pop meant my water had broke.

Suddenly it was a Saturday like no other. In our minds there wasn’t a maybe.

We knew in a few hours our lives would forever change as we welcomed our new little baby.

Addy arrived two weeks early with chubby cheeks and lungs you can reliably call strong.

At 7 pounds 11 ounces she is happy and healthy, and did we mention she is 19 inches long?

We know we are partial and very likely biased, but if you disagree we’ll tell you to can it!

It’s so very evident, it’s undeniably true, there’s no cuter babe on the planet.

It was a Saturday like all the others, wakin’ up to a day all the same.

But the day turned to magic, special like no other, when we welcomed our sweet Addy Jane.

Our New Baby Room

We are so grateful to have such amazing families!! Last weekend, my family came up to visit. I mentioned to my mom that I wanted to rearrange the baby's room to look cuter and she really took on the challenge. What resulted was amazing! We spent Saturday turning the baby's room into a pink sanctuary. It is now our favorite room and we often find ourselves there because it's such a happy place. All we need now is our little Addy! We hope she'll be here in the next few weeks!!!! We can't wait!

Our New Place in Kansas

We're here! We finally arrived in Lawrence Kansas and found a little bit of time to write about it. After being moved to three different apartments within the same complex, we were fortunate enough to get, what we think, is the best apartment here. It is equipped with a new fridge, new carpet, and newlinoleum and most importantly, it has a toilet, so we don't have use the outhouse. We are excited to have the baby's room almost put together. It is covered in pinks, purples and greens. We've included a picture of our back balcony that has a beautiful view of a forest behind our home.
Andy also started his first day at KU!!!!! He was absolutely adorable with his new backpack and the best part of it all, he had no classes scheduled for his first day of school, so we had fun together that day!
Recently, on the 25th we celebrated Andy's birthday!!!! We had so much fun between our picnic at KU and eating his favorite cream cheese pie that night. So far everything is fantastic here in Kansas. We are hoping that very soon our duo will become a trio!!! Little Addy is due on September 29 and we pray that she comes soon!!! We are just oozing with excitement! We love you all!

Andy's Debut at the Tabernacle

After all the paperwork and auditions were completed, Andy was ready to play at the Tabernacle. Of course, that included hours upon hours of practice that brought us up to the Tabernacle for some late nights. It was a wonderful experience to be there and feel the Spirit of such a special building that represented such a sacrifice from the early Saints. Many a night the lights in the Tabernacle shut off at 11pm and we found ourselves seeing only by the light of the organ console, but this only enhanced our view of the Christus Statue in the visitors center, which could be seen through the windows of the Tabernacle. The recitals were fabulous and we had such an outpouring of support from friends and family. It was so much fun to have my mom come and visit us! I couldn't have been prouder of Andy for all his hard work to accomplish his dream to play in the Tabernacle before we headed to Kansas!!

One Year Anniversary!

We could hardly believe that we had been married one year on May 18! This has been the funnest year for us and we are even more excited for the next year together. We will be moving to Lawrence, Kansas in August for Andy's education and shortly thereafter we are expecting our little girl on September 29! In the meantime, Andy and I are coaching a Little League Baseball team here in Spanish Fork. It keeps us busy at least three times a week with games on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and practice on Saturdays. We've really enjoyed getting out in the sunshine and having fun in the community! Andy has also been busy practicing for his debut at the Tabernacle on Temple Square, where he will be a guest performer on the organ for their noon day recitals. I am so proud of him!! We love you all and hope you'll stay tuned for more posts on our blog!
